Our Hylas 54, Solitude, is our 5th boat. We bought her seven years ago with the intention of world voyaging. Gary retired from a career as a publisher and association executive three years ago and Torie, a retired teacher, gained her freedom four years ago. We sold our home in Alexandria, just outside Washington DC, and have been living full-time on Solitude for the past four years. Since then we have been exploring the Atlantic coast of North America from Nova Scotia to Grenada. We are very excited about exploring the South Pacific with several old friends and looking forward to meeting new friends who are also participating on the ARC. Our plan is to sail with the ARC as far as Australia and spend a few years exploring New Zealand, Australia and Polynesia. After that… who knows?
