Maiko - Maiko Cape Verde to Grenada, day four

Our start from Mindelo was a lot more comfortable than our start from Las Palmas. Calm winds and small waves. We chose to go south to get steadier winds and hope this will pay off in the long run. We expect this part of our journey to last about 16 days. So far spirits are high and we have had several encounters with dolphins of different sizes and colors + see flying fishes all the time. Two jumped right into the boat last night. We work with a schedule of three hours on shift, then six hours off. This seems to be working well. - Linnimage1. read more...

Maiko - Maiko day 4-5 - Less than half way to go!

Last night we celebrated that we have now come more than half the way from Las Palmas to Mindelo. The girls made chocolate muffins and we all watched Vaiana in the cockpit. The weather has been a bit on the chilli side, but today we woke up to clear blue skies and a visit from our dolphin friends for the 5 day in a row. While we were watching the dolphins, our fish line ran wild until whatever was on the hook got away with all of it... Life is good and spirits are high even though we would have preferred a bit stronger winds.288 NM to go.-Linnimage2image3image1. read more...

Maiko - SY Maiko - Day 3i

Øystein and Terje had a wet first night with waves up to 4meters and up to 32 knots of wind in guests. The spray from the waves activated Øystein’s life jacket and detached one of our solar pannels. Luckily, Øystein caught it In time before it went into the water and the waves and the winds have now calmed down a bit. They say that a well fed crew is a happy crew, so we try to enjoy good food, adapt to a slower pace, watch dolphins and relax as much as we can when we are not on shift. 573 nautical miles left to Mindelo.-Linnimage1image2. read more...
