For two of our crew, Captain Pugwash and Able seaman Stains, it is the start of a one year voyage. The other crew members, Master bates and Roger the cabin boy, would be departing from the boat in Portugal to return to work and university respectively, providing they could tear themselves away from the joys of sailing. On route to the start line we admired the sights along the way, between which we spotted a young. read more...

Dances With Waves - Rally Portugal

Friday 19th JuneWell what a change now we have reached Lisbon. As soon as we came intothis enourmous river the temperature shot up at least 15 degrees. So nowwe are blessed with hot sunshine and plenty of flies! Went to see Lisbontown today and walked upto the St George Castle. Its never beenconquered since it was built trillions of years ago. I'm not surprisedit's a long way up.Tomorrow we are off to Sines which is the last stop before Lagos. Notmuch wind predicted so lots of motoring. Ah well cant have it all ways. The previous legs blew us all the way down the portuguese coast.Fantastic sailing.. read more...

Dances With Waves - Re: Log day 9 Bonding and pondering

Position:220 nm to halfwayDances with waves has performed magnificently. What a grand old lady she is.The tradewinds have been fantastic giving us a best day yesterday of 146 knts in 24 hours.Way above expectations of 120 knts per day. We are all bonding very nicely with more laughs than moans. Its surprising how quickly the days melt into one another. By the time everyone has washed and showered, had their cup of favourite coffee, written their diaries, read The Times and listened to BBC business news. then its time for midday aperitifs. The afternoon flys by with afternoon naps and pondering on the other world somewhere there over the horizon. Its already time for another shower, change into bow tie and tails and sunset sundowners before the evening meal followed by coffee after eights. read more...

Dances With Waves - Log Day 14

Great night sailing.Average 6 knts and now very nearly on 1800 miles completed in two weeks.I'm not going to predict an ETA but its much better than we ever imagined when we set out 2 weeks ago from GC.Where do the days go? I know you all think what a lazy old adventure.Get up have brekkies read a book have lunch read some more have dinner and then select straws for shift times.Had some major thunderstorms the night before last.Lightening going off all night long.luckerly a long way ahead of us.Weve given the fishing a rest as we have got more than enough mahu mahu and need some red meat.Tough questions being asked on board such as how long can a boiled sweet last...why is the moon cut off from the bottom rather than the side. How to make a decent filter coffee in between wave swells.Mind. read more...
