Navasana - Day 20 150 miles to go to St Lucia.

Only 150 miles to go, hoping to get into St Lucia tomorrow or Sunday morning depending on how fast we can sail with the dying breeze. Today our Code 65 saved the day allowing us to make 4 knots in just 6 knots of breeze. Was fully expecting to be sailing into st Lucia with my Oxley parasailor not upwind with the code 65 ;-) We had a beautiful sunset today, first clear sky in many days. Attached is a photo we took of the sunset with the three of us. Looking forward to getting into st Lucia! More on sailingnavasana.com image1. read more...

Navasana - Day 19 Getting lifted to St Lucia

We started sailing early this morning after motoring to a position that would allow us to get to St Lucia on one tack while getting lifted as the wind veers around. Still, we are close hauled at around 40AWA getting beaten up by wind waves and swell. Winds are around 17 knots making for some fast bumpy sailing. Birdy died this morning which was very sad, we had got really fond of her. She wasn’t scared of us at all and would let us stoke and also hold and carry her around. We left water and food out for her but she obviously had different tastes. We had Jessy’s left over lentil curry again for dinner, yum yum. Navasana - Day 18 Motoring to dodge a warm front

Much as we love beating to windward on a catamaran, we decided to switch on the iron genny to get ahead of a warm front forming at 55W which we will hopefully cross tonight. Also hoping we can get a better angle to st Lucia as the wind veers around a tropical storm up north. Birdy is pooping all over boat but loves being stroked so she is keeping us busy. Her favourite spot seems to be the chart table checking if my navigation is correct. Birdy’s little sister also joined us, hope the rest of family doesn’t make their way here. Jessy made a lentil curry which was very yummy. Back to the bash!More on sailingnavasana.com. read more...

Navasana - Day 17 Beating for 450miles

We have headwinds for the last 450 miles to St Lucia and beating close hauled on a catamaran is like Chinese water torture. Hopefully we won’t arrive insane. Right now we are sailing at 40AWA and keeping up with a 15m monohull next to us. On another note, another bird joined our crew but she moved right into the saloon and found a nice cozy spot under the settee. Looks like we are turning into an aviary! back to the bash!More on sailingnavasana.com. read more...

Navasana - Day 16 We have a new crew member!

We picked up a new crew member today. She flew down and would not leave. We spent many hours shooing her away and then she perched on our iridium satellite antenna and she knew she had us. Right now that is our most valuable piece of equipment and if she picks at the wires we are done for. No more blog updates for you :-) So we have resigned ourselves to her presence and hope she signs up for a watch and doesn’t poo everywhere. Lots of squalls today luckily with not much wind increase. Hopefully will be done with them tomorrow and we get back to blue skies, sunny weather and continuing “find the wind”.More on sailingnavasana.com. read more...
