Gertha 5 - Biscay

40.32 N 06.11 W   Winds were good to start, died in the early morning back now. Me being apurist sailed the calm and watched the fleet motor past. We are clear of shipping lane , no fun with fishing boats, they all left usalone; maybe they are waiting for the continental shelf. Gertha 5 - Plymouth

n 50.21 w 04.09   The Head Master introduced himself last night at a modest presentation. Asin terms he is keen that all pupils dress properly, Talk of school outingsto many exciting places. By good fortune Deputy head, Chris Tibbs, is a world famous weather man,my guess is he will tell us all where to go tonight, heaven forbid any pupildoes not follow his directions, there may be a few in detention later in theterm. My guess is this home work wil be marked down because of my poorspelling.   As in previous trips we will attempt to blog on the gertha mailasail blog,Sat phone will be on, happy to supply number if anyone wishes to help with textmessage, looks like we can do things on facebook with the YB thingy. Gertha 5 - Rally Portugal 2018 day minus 6

Gertha 5 is now tied up on Mayflower Marina, my third Rally Portugal and this Gerties first. Delivery from Suffolk was near perfect, winds north east with a good selection of speeds, 0 to 30. Not much 30 odd seconds . 0 was for 6 hours off Portland. Only two problems , first was noisy transmission, by luck this manifested it self in Cowes, good friends at World Cruising had a mechanic on board in minuets after asking for help. It appears I bought a boat last year in Spain took her to UK and had no oil in gearbox, Poseidon must love me, as he allowed my incompetence to check the oil level. Second problem is a failed fridge, however we have 2 so no great problem.Now have a week to sort last few snags.The teak deck is black , the oil from last autumn was a fail, many joyful hours of. read more...
