Rum Truffle - Rum Truffle - Log 3-26th October- Around the bottom south west of Spain- to be precise.

This is the third log while preparing for the ARC. Obviously I (a boat) cannot write, sail , mend its self, feed its self, etc. ..even though I am female , I just can’t multitask. Some think I can , like Maurice my cousin for example, he thought that I could keep myself steady , sail with my engines on , keep course and miss that half sunken rock , just North of Lesbos , I just could not do it (even when my name was not Rum Trhuffle) something had to go – it was not the game of scrabble , it was not the rock. It was the lifting 4m keel that swung backwards into action , spraying hydraulic oil all over the bilge.  With this in mind I decided to hand over this chore to the owner and skipper Paul. Not only because the Iridium go phone meant it had to be connected to an I phone and not. read more...

Rum Truffle - Rum Truffle - Log 2 - 28th September 2015 - I'm afloat again in Palma!

I can’t tell you how pleased I am to be back in the water again today, with both my hulls wet, the way they are supposed to be!  My crew took me straight out for a quick sea trial – for which, of course, I behaved perfectly - but as the weather was a bit stormy, I genuinely thought that the moment had arrived for me to take my crew straight off on our 5,000 mile voyage to the Caribbean. And I was really REALLY excited when I saw my sister ship, Laissez Faire, an identical Lagoon 560 catamaran that was built alongside me by the French, sailing alongside me! There was lots of tooting’s of horns, waving, and generally outrageous and exuberant behaviour by both crews; sometimes I have to keep reminding myself that I am flying the burgee of the Royal Thames Yacht Club! My excitement. read more...

Rum Truffle - Rum Truffle - Log 1 - 23rd September 2015

Although my crew have a reputation for being a pretty wild bunch, I was pleased that they decided to start my 5,000 mile journey from Mallorca to St. Lucia in a very sensible manner – with a haul out, and a thorough check. Luckily, I didn’t need anything significant, as I’m only four years old, but my crew wisely decided to change both my propeller shaft cutlass bearings and some sea cocks, to be certain. Can’t wait to get back in the water and have some fun with my crew!! . read more...
