Lily - End of Detox

St Lucia insight so we made it across the Atlantic Ocean. Means the end of our detox program also, knowing the World Cruising Club, time to start all over again with the parties. Well it is the Caribbean so what else would one expect to do with all this time ashore having been at sea for 14 days!. read more...

Lily - Chef!

Those who have just finished a long transatlantic crossing seem to have a craving for proper food. One can see them rushing to a restaurant to dig in the minute they arrived. Not so much on this yacht. We are blessed having an excellent Chef. Besides also being quite an accomplished sailor (obviously as she has now nearly crossed the Atlantic Ocean), she has been more than able to feed the Skipper and Boris, the Cat, with excellent dishes on a daily basis. Clearly she knows what it takes to keep her menfolk happy (which is by all means not a small feat …). I say it is not easy to keep producing nice big juicy steaks, fresh fruit and vegetables on a daily basis whilst being tossed around. It is quite funny (maybe not for the Chef …) to see her sliding through the kitchen whilst stirring. read more...

Lily - Boris

According to my skipper, we have now made it as far as midway so things are starting to lighten up. Life onboard is good although I can’t run around as much. They keep me, more or less, inside probably worried that I would fall over board. They clearly don’t appreciate the agility of a cat! I must say I was a bit apprehensive about living aboard a sailing yacht when they took me from my cosy little place at the shelter in Malta. Over time, I got used to the yacht and to them. I’m doing my fair share of the work onboard. I do the night watches with the only female onboard, which is good for her (and probably the skipper as they seem to have some kind of romantic relationship …). I do need to watch over her carefully. One never quite knows what those human females are up to. Under my. read more...

Lily - Getting There

Day four of the, probably, 15 day trip and all is well? No doubt most blogs talk about the day to day life and how well things are going. This blog is not going to be that different but for the fact that it is going to be much sorter. After having survived last night`s squally weather and confused sea, today was much different. Nice breeze and the wind shifting more in the usual (so they say) trade wind direction. I must say it was surprising these squally weather conditions. Never quite sure what this meant but now we know. Sort burst of surprisingly cold heavy rain with winds increasing in multiples. You would now say, well that is what the books say as well. True but experiencing it is so much different especially when it is pitch dark … Obviously all the books say one should track. read more...

Lily - Wonderful

What can I say? Today, we arrived in Mindelo and probably should say that we are happy to be so. We are not so sure. The trip was wonderful. Good wind for most of the time with an easy sea so no real sea sickness or being uncomfortable. Once the body and mind had agreed with the new rhythm of sleep and (lack of) activity, sailing and thus life becomes really easy. We could have easily kept going for another couple of weeks. Good we are leaving again this Wednesday for the ‘big’ event, the crossing of the Atlantic Ocean! Can’t wait.. read more...
