Lots of ARC boats use the high profile of the ARC and the huge numbers of participants and supporters to raise money for good causes. One of these is Tom Druitt who is crewing on Peregrine (GBR) as part of his attempt to hitch hike around the world raising money for the International Red Cross. More details http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/TomDruitt The Ntanda crew are raising money (approx £12,000) to buy an ambulance for Kenya as part of their ARC crossing. The ambulance will provide a vital link to medical care in the remote Balambala region, and will certainly save lives. More information on www.ntandaracing.co.uk The crew of Bellerofonte III come from Emilia Romagna, the area of Itlay badly damaged by the earthquake which killed 27 people earlier this year. They aim to raise Euro 5700 towards the cost of rebuilding a swimming pool in the town of Final Emilia. Sport is important to help the region’s children to have normality in their lives. The boat is carrying a pennant from the people of the city of Modena to be presented to the people of Saint Lucia as a symbol of solidarity.
Regular ARC boats Lancelot II and Scarlet Oyster will be raising funds for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust during the ARC. The crew are all encouraged to get friends and family to sponsor them, with all of the proceeds going to the charity, which helps young people recovering from cancer to regain their confidence through sailing.
Lancelot’s crew will each receive a copy of Ellen’s book ‘Full Circle’, recounting her own sailing adventures, as well as being able to get involved with the work of her Trust. Donations can be made via www.justgiving.com/britanniaarc More information at www.ellenmacarthurcancertrust.org
