Rally Control ready for the arrival of the first Atlantic Cup boats

Rally Control team ready for arrival of first Atlantic Cup team
08 May 2012

Beautiful weather here in St Georges as the Rally team await for the arrival of the first Atlantic Cup boats. The first yacht 'Brizo' is due to cross the finish the line within the next hour, with 'Escapade' about 30NM behind her, so Lyall, Nick & Kieran are getting ready for a few busy days of berthing here at St Georges Dinghy & Sports Club.

It has been a mixed leg from the BVI's with some great sailing conditions along with some lighter winds and consequently some boats have had to use the motor much more than they would like. Such is sailing… Discounted fuel will be available for all rally boats whist here, before the fleet head off back towards the USA on Friday 11 May.

The rally boats are based in St Georges at the North-East end of Bermuda. If the people who inhabited this small town 100 years ago were able to re-visit us and take in this overview of their lovely town, they would find, at first glance - and no doubt to their delight - that little has changed. The islanders who work tirelessly to preserve its colonial charms have triumphed over the pressures of modernism. They have a story worth preserving. The town of St. George was founded in 1612 and was Bermuda's capital until 1815, when it was changed to Hamilton. Stroll through the alleys and along the waterfront; take a step back in time. Visit Gates Fort and Fort St. Catherine, peer across the harbour from Barrack Hill, close your eyes and imagine the sights and sounds of an era that is long gone but still echoes around the historic Town of St. George.

We look forward to having all the Atlantic Cup boats safely alongside or at anchor within the St Georges cut within the next few days.
