Yellowbrick trackers to follow live progress of fleet
22 May 2012

Every Rally Portugal boat will this year be fitted with a 'Yellowbrick', a satellite tracking device the size of a mobile phone that is fixed temporarily onboard. The trackers automatically send information about current boat position and speed direct to the rally website every few hours during the entire rally. Yellowbricks are now used on all World Cruising Club events, and allow the progress of the fleet to be tracked online from anywhere in the world.

The information collected is displayed live on the 'Fleet Viewer' tab on the right hand side of the Rally Portugal website, so that friends and family at home can follow the progress of individual boats as well as the whole fleet as they sail across the Bay of Biscay and then down the Atlantic coastline of Spain and Portugal over the next few weeks.

Click here to see how the interactive page works, by following the ARC Europe 2012 fleet who are currently on their way from Bermuda to the Azores.

Using the controls in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, you can rewind and playback the tracks at different speeds. Using the pop out tabs on the left, you can highlight individual boats, and using the icons at the top of the screen, you can change to full screen mode, turn current wind conditions on, use the ruler to measure distance between boats, and zoom in and out to even see where the boats are in the marina... Have a play!
