Yesterday the World ARC crews went on a coach tour of stunning sights and strong smells & flavours around the handsome island of Grenada. It was absolutely fantastic to see how Grenadians live, their history and their industries, as well as see such a friendly people waving and smiling all the way around on the tour.
The first stop was at the Nutmeg Story House, in Gouyave, half way up the west coast of the island. It was an old artisan nutmeg factory but nowadays has been converted into an outlet for fabrics, soaps and oils made of spices. Crews could taste different kind of rums and cocoa hot chocolate, which got the morning off to a great start!
This full day tour took us around Lake Antoine, an example of natural beauty and variety in Grenada, and the Rum Distillery before a buffet lunch at the Belmont Estate. This estate and particularly the restaurant is located in a great setting. It's home to a unique and authentic 17th century plantation that offers guests an opportunity to participate in and observe the workings of a fully functional process. At the end of the tour there was a chance to buy a wide variety of organic chocolates and bonbons.
On the way back to Port Louis Marina we squeezed through the luxuriant rain forest to stop at the Grand Etang Lake and check out the resident monkeys. It was a good laugh to see them interact with the tourist.
And then it was back on the buses to arrive back at Port Louis Marina in time for the Welcome Function that evening. |
