Wild Tigris Arrives in Salvador

Wild Tigris arrives in Salvador
Monday, 31st January, 2011

The first yacht from the World ARC fleet arrived in Termial Nautico on Salvador’s waterfront today having completed a long 3,700 nautical mile passage across the South Atlantic from South Africa. The honour of first arrival was bestowed on the largest yacht in the fleet, the 76 foot Swan ‘Wild Tigris’, skippered by Sean McCarter. Sean and his four crew; owner Casey, Heidi, Stu and Sofia were welcomed to Brazil by Baiana ladies, in traditional dress, offering refreshingly cold caipirinha.

When asked about their crossing, the crew commented that it had been the perfect crossing of their last ocean of the World ARC route. The sail had been an enjoyable one but a little more wind would have been better, especially for the second half. That been said it meant that nothing had broken and the only equipment needing replacing was a lure lost whilst fishing. Sean told a local reporter that he’d be waiting for his welcome caipirinha for several days and it was good to finally arrive in Salvador.

The remainder of the World ARC boats will continue to arrive in Salvador during the next week. Once the crews have re-energised after their long journey, they have a beautiful and interesting city on there doorstep to explore. The last boats which took the start of the leg are expected to arrive in time for the prize giving on Monday 7 February.
