 The brand new Port Louis Marina in Grenada has welcomed the first two arrivals from the World ARC fleet. Annemare, a Halberg Rassy 53, and Windflower III, a Bavaria 46, came onto their berths in the early afternoon. The weather was perfectly Caribbean, temperature at 28, a light breeze, and blue skies. Over the next four days the remaining World ARC yachts will arrive into the island's capital, St Georges.
Awaiting the crews is the chance to take part in the round island race, as well as complimentary island tours, and a welcome reception hosted by Port Louis marina, at which the Minister for Tourism & Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Peter David, will address the sailors.
There's also the island's natural beauty including 45 beaches, one of which, Grand Anse, is regulary featured in the World's top ten listings. Grenada’s interior is very mountainous with Mount Saint Catherine being the highest at 2,756 feet. This small country is the world's second largest nutmeg producer, and its rich volcanic soil supports cinnamon, cloves, ginger, mace, and allspice.
 Port Louis Marina represents a big step forward for the island, being one of the biggest single developments in the wake of 2004's Hurricane Ivan, which destroyed or damaged 90% of homes. The island recovered with remarkable speed, and through international assistance is now one of the most sought after destinations in the Caribbean. Once finished, Port Louis will be the largest marina in the eastern Caribbean, from the Virgins south. The modern housing stock meets the latest building regulations, and residents enjoy a new high quality infractructure. Being in the relatively safe zone of 12 degrees north, the island only has to deal with a serious hurricane once every 50 years.
