"Wait 'til you see my costume!", has become a familiar phrase amongst the World ARC crew. There's been no hesitation about getting involved in the huge Carnival processions, free music concerts, and nightly street parties. Even a massive downpour on the opening night didn't dent peoples' enthusiasm. In fact for some of the locals it was just another reason to celebrate.
Since Thursday, Recife has been partying in style, day and night. On Monday and Tuesday, the focus shifts to the historic town of Olinda, a UNESCO heritage area. By Wednesday life returns to normal, with the proviso that lent has begun, and so a period of relative sobriety runs until the Easter celebrations. The Brazilians certainly don't miss an opportunity when it comes to throwing a party.
Within Cabanga Yacht Club skippers have been taking advantage of the good skills base and keen prices, getting odd jobs done that would otherwise be put on hold. Outboards have been serviced, sails repaired, canvas work taken care of, even new forestay toggles have been manufactured.
