Two days out of Recife, Brazil, inbound from Cape Town (having set off
some three weeks prior), a Russian captain hauls in a mammoth catch.
That's what happened on World ARC yacht 'Gray Lady', and a glance at
the gallery picture shows the enormous marlin that her lures hooked.
Last night at Cabanga Yacht Club, an impromptu barbecue organised by
Boris Fedorov, owner of Gray Lady, a Dixon 72', brought together
the crews for a BYO-BBQ evening.
Every other yachts' galley rustled up an accompanying dish that was equally mouth-watering, prepared by seasoned blue water cruisers who have achieved 23,000 sea miles of perfecting delicious meals from simple ingredients, in a snug space. Carnival begins in earnest on Thursday, with a special indoor event lined up for the crews, called Dilated Pupils. A 19 year old Carnival institution, it brings together around 5,000 people people to party the night away, with proceeds going to a medical charity that provides free eye care for disadvantaged children. Recent successes include giving a 7-year old sight for the first time in her life. Now, that's definitely worth a good party.
