Ready to party... at the World's largest street Carnival

Ready to party... at the World's largest street Carnival
14 February 2009

The galo, or rooster, during Carnival in RecifeIn the Guiness book of records as the World's largest street Carnival, the Galo da Madrugada is one of the many reasons Recife has been selected as the stopover during Carnival in Brazil.  It's also the natural jump off point to the island of Fernando de Noronha, regarded by many as having the best beaches on earth.

The fleet are berthed in Cabanga Yacht Club, an exclusive facility with swimming pools, restaurants, tennis courts & excellent repair services.

Galo da Madrugada (Madrugada translates as early morning or sunrise, galo is rooster) is held in the downtown area of Recife. A note on Carnival; Recife Carnival is a 2 week affair… in other parts of Brazil it’s only 5 days.

On Tuesday, the crews will be introduced to the city, and nearby UNESCO town of Olinda with a complimentary coach tour, followed by a presentation from the Pernambuco State Tourism Authority, Emeptur.  The evening is then given over to an informal welcome reception.

Amazing detail on the GaloOn Thursday, the temptation is Recife's best indoor Carnival experience.  Giving the game away slightly, it's an evening called 'Dilated Pupils. Now in its 19th year, this Carnival institution is run in conjunction with a local children’s hospital, acting as a yearly fundraiser for them to provide healthcare to under-privileged youngsters.

Should the thought of being amongst hundreds of thousands of deliriously happy Brazilians make anyone wince, another popular option to enjoy Carnival is to book a place in a 'Camarote', which are specially built elevated marquees.  They offer a birds eye view of the processions along with a full bar and food service.  Why go to Carnival when it can come to you?
