More of the cruising fleet arrive in Salvador, Brazil
28 January 2009

Strega's crew being welcomed to SalvadorThe early arrivals of the cruising fleet in the Heineken Cape to Bahia race are getting settled into the Sudesb marina in Salvador, Brazil.  Kealoha 8, Strega, Branec IV, and Faraway are all now in, and enjoying the buzz around the terrace bar, with views out to the finish line, as other yachts complete the 3,400 nautical mile passage from Cape Town.

There’s a lot to do in Bahia, and in particular the city of Salvador, which is a melting pot of culture, arts cuisine, and architecture.  The state of Bahia has Brazil’s largest coastline, offering a wilderness sailing experience, yet all within one to two days sailing from Salvador.

The city is used to hosting international sailing events, with the Transat 6.50, and Clipper events having recently visited.  Each yacht is being met by a Baianas, a lady in traditional costume, and a glass of the local cocktail, Caipirinha, made from  cachaca liquor, lime, sugar and ice
