All World ARC yachts are now gathered in Cape Town,
preparing for their third ocean crossing of the event, run in
conjunction with the Heineken Cape to Bahia Race. The Cape to Bahia
racing yachts will be sailing directly to Salvador in Brazil, whilst
the cruising yachts will join the World ARC fleet for a short stop in
St Helena. Over forty yachts will be taking part in the event.
Most WARC yachts have been in the Royal Cape Yacht Club for some time, enjoying meeting local sailors and the new crews who will be sailing this leg.
The long break in the World ARC itinerary has been used in many different ways by the various crew members, with some taking the opportunity to fly home to enjoy Christmas with family or catch up on business, whilst others have relaxed in the South African summer and seen something of this very interesting part of the world, travelling to places such as Namibia and Lesotho, as well as the game parks of this country.
Kealoha 8, & Annemare were hauled out for some maintenance work and at least two crews moved into rented apartments for some luxury time with baths, sofas TV and the like.
There is busy time ahead with a full program of events over the next few days and the provisioning to do between holidays.
