March 29
We left Hiva Oa today. The anchorage there is silty and we couldn't make water (would clog the filter), swim (were told there are a lot of sharks there), and so didn't really want to clean the bottom there. We also had to move as the supply ship for the island is due tomorrow and there is very limited anchoring available when the supply ship is due. So we motor sailed the 5 miles to Tahuata and anchored at a lovely little bay. The water is clear so I went in to clean the bottom while the girls swam around. Sarah yelled "shark" so we all swam for the ladder. There was a 3 to 4 foot shark swimming along the bottom. I don't know what kind but we kept swimming. The shark didn't come back. Tomorrow we may snorkel along the edge of the bay where we've been told there are a lot of very colorful fish.
Sam and Sarah have made a new friend. There's another family from the US (California) and their little girl and Sam and Sarah have been enjoying playing together. Unfortunately we are not spending much time in the Marquesas since we have to get to Tahiti. We probably will only spend a few more days here (3 or so at 2 more islands) then do the 500 mile voyage to the Tuamotus so we can spend a week there then on to Tahiti.
