Throughout the night the ocean became almost like glass, with a long ,gentle swell. Clear skies, shooting stars and the usual lightening in the distance. Stewy’s not well with a nasty head cold – sent to bed with brandy and lemon to sleep it off. The rest of us do single 2 hour watches. Three birds with us now, clacking and chirping to each other all night. Around 9am the islands become visible – one of them looks like the Ailsa Craig!. We have a couple of rain showers and the current against us starts to decrease at long last. At 11.30 am we see our first big sea lion who pops up close to the boat. Shortly afterwards we see about 30 dolphins making their way across to starboard, leaping and jumping right out the water – a few leave the group and make a detour to come and play with our bow for a while. Next a turtle appears popping his head up to have a wee nosy at us as we motor past. We’ve put the headsail up to dry it out, we’re doing 7.4 knots, time to go to our destination - 5 hours!.
