WORK HARD - SAIL SLOW!
Made good speeds during the night on our way to Panama (about 1200nm), but
the winds are much lighter this afternoon, nevertheless we have made 182 nm
in the first 24 hours at sea.
Malcy has been working hard all day fixing up fans in the forward cabins,
which get unbearable hot when its rough or raining and the hatches cannot be
opened. He also plans one for the galley, which is even hotter even if you
can leave the hatches open, which is probably why I lost a lot of weight on
the ARC after 17 days sweating it out in the galley, not to mention no
alcohol!
After amazing efforts washing and drying the fruit on Wednesday morning, Bob
and Lori then spent 3 hours preparing and cooking chicken and other food in
the evening! They are real workers who like to be occupied all the time! Bob
however is perhaps taking it a bit too far having had no sleep at all since
Thursday morning, no doubt so he can spend more time talking and working! To
be serious you would not know he hasn't had any sleep, he is still his
normal irrepressible self. Bionic Bob?
Lori has been preparing their lures and fishing lines this afternoon. JB
thinks in future she should be known as 'Alluring Lori'! I have shown her
the photo of the 5-footer that John Yeo caught on the ARC. Quite a challenge
to beat that!

Dinner tonight is by Lori, a delicious salmon, honey and mustard recipe. Bob
follows this by an enormous fruit salad, which was also very tasty, but
clearly after no beer for 2 days, he was attempting to beat the alcohol ban
whilst sailing, as he seemed to have thrown a bucketful of rum over it!
Talking of alcohol having spotted some alcohol removed wine from 'Super J's'
in St Lucia and bought some to try and cook with, I was give a considerable
amount of stick by Malcy on seeing this, who suggested I took a bottle to
dinner on Kasuje the other night for my own exclusive use!
And by the way the wind has dropped overnight and our 8-knot average is now
not much over 6! Malcy is threatening the kite for Saturday!
