Jus'Do It 3 - Day 2 - Just when its all going well.....

Yesterday afternoon we continued o our merry way after having done 190 miles the previous 24 hours  We settled down for the evening doing a steady 8-9 knots thoroughly enjoyable and morale high despite still suffering still although she still has not been sick fingers crossed she will pull through in the next 24 hours!

Throughout the night still no sign of any other boats! Where are they all? Are we going the wrong way?

Wind gradually picked up throughout the night  so eventually at 0200 we put a reef in and furled away a little bit of the headsail. Despite this we were still making great progress with a new top speed of 14.1 knots and were averaging 10-11 knots. The remainder of the morning remained squally and the wind was all over the place.

So that would have been it for the days log as when we were just about to write it the wind died away to nothing and the debate was had whether or not to hoist the spinnaker. Eventualy the speed freaks in Ian & Scott got there way and we started to set the spinnaker up. All going well during the hoist until several times the halyard got jammed at the bottom of the mast. While the jam was getting released the spinnaker decided to get into a major fankle round the forestay. The next two hours proved extremely busy particularly as the wind increased as soon as this had happened! Typical! Scott was up the forestay to begin with to try and get the wrap out when annie who is also on the foredeck spots whales straight ahead about 100 yards away and heading for us. They weren’t for moving and eventually we navigated our way through them with big daddy passing to port and mummy and kid passing to starboard thankfully we missed them with scott up the forestay! We all had a good look but unfortunately no time for cameras as spinnaker still in an awful mess. After the wrap was out the forestay the halyard was still stuck up the mast so time for Scott to venture up again! After going up twice and bouncing off the mast finally he got a knife through the halyard and the kite was safely recovered with one small rip. Meanwhile scott was being sick from the top of the mast and the lovely wahoo was no more so lovely luckily though he missed all of us on the boat!

Enough excitement for one day!!

Hopefully you may see this photo of our catch of the day without even trying!
