We are close to the mid way point of the crossing on miles. Hopefully we are past the mid point on days.
The wind through the night was pretty strong, hitting into the 30s. We significantly reefed our double Genoas (our main has been 90% reefed since day 4). We were still hurtling along at pretty significant speeds, especially when surfing down
the big waves. We frequently hit 10 knots.
Spirits are flagging a little with sleep being a bit hard to come by and the daunting distances both behind us and ahead of us. We have also been hearing some tough stories of what other boats are going through.
Tomorrow we will do our half way dinner celebration. Not too long after that we will be counting down the miles to go at below 1000.
We are having fun where we can find it. Yesterday we filmed our fourth music video of the trip. This time it was in direct response to another boat that had made a request. It brought us joy and hopefully did so as well for other boats.
Snowmane is still sailing along beautifully. It's amazing how much the boat just sails herself. The hydro vane we installed is like magic. Even with big wind and waves through the night nobody had to touch the wheel. More, she steers downwind
automatically so as a squall comes in and the wind veers about 15 degrees to our starboard, the boat just turns so that the wind is still behind us, which is the most comfortable. Having seen what hand steering is like in these conditions, that is absolutely
massive.
