Hummingbird Blog

Some like it
Hot!,
Well folks,
we're on the home straight. Early
this morning we gybed onto what we hope is our final course into St Lucia. After day after day of heading WSW we
are now heading WNW.
Our resident
Beat Poet Ken isn't quite sure what to do with himself after his epic poem 'Tale
of the Westbound Hummingbird' in which the underlying chorus resonated in his
deep American North Western brogue 270 270 270 270 270 ', it would appear our
new course of 310 degrees doesn't rhyme as well. We will see what he comes up
with.
As per my last
blog, the routines remain the same but the cement that hold the crew of
Hummingbird together is hardening.
Some crew without comms to loved ones have been lent access to such by
those that have and are eternally grateful. A virtual hug can mean a lot. Some feeling the heat or needing a break
have gladly been given leave to rest and other have stepped into the
gap.
The team bonding
manifests in so many different little ways some discussing financial advice,
others acing it as galley mates, others persevering with fishing or sharing
resources such as sat comms, shampoo or wet wipes.
Having watched
Team Hummingbird from the beginning and as alluded to already by one of my
esteemed crewmates, one could hardly believe that such a diverse group of 12
people could come together as a such a strong team. It is a testament to their character,
their strength and their resilience to have pulled together to achieve their
mutual goal. Yes they have at
times, been tired, tested and pushed to different limits and beyond but, they
have pulled through and pulled together admirably.
Of course this
team has (as always) been admirably led by our Skipper Patrick and due credit
should go to him also for leading, coaching, teaching and encouraging in his own
inimitable way.
We are almost at
our destination, less than 250nm as I write and talk continually drifts to what
next, not only in St Lucia but also
afterwards. Some are already
talking of a reunion.
Perhaps Ken can
consider a new stanza; 310 310 310
, and then? and then? and
then?
That's all for
now folks,
All the
best,
Alex
