Widago - St. Lucia Leg (Day 12): Homestretch!

We just dipped under 50 miles until our destination in St. Lucia. It's been a taxing day, mostly for Ahab. With a constant parade of squalls and fronts coming through, in addition to quartering seas, he has been manning the helm since dawn, breaking only to quickly potty.

"This has been my least desirable passage.", he grunted while wrestling the weather helmed wheel. With all the hoopla and promises of a peaceful passage, including beautiful rolling swells, and winds blowing 15-20 knots - I think we got suckered. Perhaps though, we are just a bit too early in the season to experience those conditions.

Either way, landfall is approaching rapidly so the boys have taken to emptying the rationed snacks, chips, treats, and sodas. Today there will be no boat schooling; just all day marathon of Lost episodes, with intermittent breaks for pillow fights.

Been having a nice neighborly run next to Working on a Dream for the past few days. Always great to see a familiar signal on AIS and chat on the radio. In addition to our WOAD companions, this morning we were delighted to see another signal pop on AIS. From a distance, no name or data was showing, expected SOG, which was 27 kts. Whoa. I figured it was a supertanker or perhaps some top secret destroyer. Boy was I wrong. Screaming past us averaging easily over 20kts, was a super sleek racing monohull. It basically felt like we were standing still, as Hussein Bolt sprinted past. Blink, and they were gone.

In anticipation of our arrival, the champagne has been put in the fridge....time to grill up the last bit of tuna and cabbage, as we surf towards the finish line.
