Lomvi - Day 4 - All is (s)well!

Dear young apprentice!

400 nautical miles under the keel so far. Fresh baked buns for lunch and pie for dinner. Big sun, with occasional squalls.

If you are following our adventure on the yb app, you might have seen us drift North. You might have thought that this was a strategic decision to take the Northern short cut to the Caribbean.

It was not. In Las Palmas we (read: a skilled electrician) made a workaround so our B&G plotter could read our Raymarine compass data. This enabled us to set way points, and to get our course over ground. Very useful when navigating at sea for weeks.

We have been following our Grenada way point using our compass course, while at the same time being curious about why our course over ground, the GPS course, have been 10 to 20 degrees further north.

Line, our skilled navigator, in charge of plotting our route on paper (in case everything turns to North Korea, and we have to navigate manually) pointed out that we are heading north beacuse of the current.

Based on this revelation we performed our first jibe of the trip. We are now on a steady course southwest. Initially we would have made landfall in Guadeloupe, if we maintained our course. Not a bad option either. But we are doing what we can to win the slowest boat-price, thus we have to make it to Grenada.

If you are thinking "why is he going on about this minor navigational flaw?", it is because there is not two hundred other exiting events to report about.

We are having good progress, now also towards our planed destination. Conditions are still rocking in the free world. It is definitely a bigger challenge when our boat is the ping pong ball in a match between King Neptune and whoever he plays ping pong with. Nevertheless, we are very happy to spend our Monday out here and not at that boring place called the office.

We are trying to learn ukulele, and have an app with all the cords. However, we don't have any songs with cords to it. If you have a fairly easy song, with cords, pleas email it to [email protected]. If we manage to learn it, we will send you a recording once we reach WiFi.

Don't be mean, keep it clean!
Ciao Bella!
