Hot Stuff - emilys blog, day 13, and a friday!

Perhaps today was never going to be plain sailing. I'm not one to be superstitious, but it's been a difficult day with lots of "learning opportunities". Day 3 with a spinnaker and we are all getting used to helming. Nothing like a wrapped sail to bring the crew together. With all hands on deck we brought the sail down with minimal damage, I am so proud of our 10 unit team. Tomorrow is a new day and the spinnaker will be out again powering us towards St Lucia.

The trip so far has been such an incredible experience, we have been escorted by dolphins, chased by flying fish, seen a lonely sea turtle bobbing up and down as well as a bit too close an encounter with a whale. At times I feel as though I'm staring in my own version of blue planet. I've also discovered it is possible to look forward to a night shift, not something I ever thought I would say. The ceiling of stars, the sparkling phosphorescence and moonlight shimmering on the water is such a sight to be seen. We have been privy to some pretty spectacular sunrises and sunsets and to friends back at home, can you believe I've experienced a November and now early December with no rain whatsoever! The heats really turned up a notch and I'm excited that with each day we are making progress towards St Lucia. Bring on a cold shower and land that does not move! Love to all friends and family, can't wait to be reunited.
