The ARC Europe fleet left Vila do Porto Marina in Santa Maria at noon today bound to Marina de Lagos, in the South of Portugal.
There was a very light breeze blowing but boats were patient enough to cross the start line under sail. The wind will start picking up by the end of today and the first arrival in Lagos is expected on Thursday16th June.
Santa Maria is the southernmost island in the Azores and covers an area of a bit less than 97 square kilometres. Participants have enjoyed a relaxing time on this island that although tiny has a lot to offer and everyone had the opportunity to explore at their own pace. Dramatic landscapes and fantastic hiking trails, great diving spots and natural swimming pools were the activities chosen during the last three days.
