ARC+ arrivals in Mindelo are almost complete with only six yachts left to complete their passage. The 65 boats already berthed in Mindelo are creating a spectacle with colourful dress over flags and creating vibrant atmosphere with crews congratulating and sharing stories from their first sail together as a fleet.
Leg 1 (Las Palmas to Mindelo) hasn’t been without its trials. A mixture of issues including broken whisker poles, damaged autopilots and generators are amongst the more serious of problems, whilst others require simple sail repairs before setting off next Wednesday.
Whilst the remainder of the boats make landfall, last night crews were invited by Marina Mindelo General Manager Lutz Mayer-Scheel for a welcome function on the dockside where local music and dancing greeted the fleet providing a taste of the local culture. Words of welcome from Marina encouraged crews to explore the islands with the time they have but to relax before setting sail to St Lucia.
