ARC+ participants contribute to the ARC Forest

Today 36 ARC+ participants went into the mountains to plant trees in the ARC forest in Gran Canaria. The participants represented many countries for this multi-national effort with crews from the UK, USA, Canada, France, Netherlands and Sweden. En-route to the forest crews had a pleasant journey through the mountainside in a coach passing banana plantations.

The weather and visibility was very clear allowing participants to see Mount Teide in Tenerife towering above the sea in the distance.

After reaching the ARC Forest Project the participants were able to see the cows, bulls, and stroke the little calves in the farmyard area before trekking up the hill to the current planting area. Sergio from the Forest Project gave an informative talk on how to plant the young trees with aim to give them a good chance of surviving on the hillside.

The day saw the participants working hard with their hoes resulting in a total of 200 trees being planted! This adds to the impressive 10,000 Square Meters already planted by previous ARC and ARC+ participants in the last few years. The planting was followed by a picnic on the hillside before the trip back to Las Palmas ready for the ARC+ crew dinner.
