Visiting Niue

As the weather conditions improved in Niue, more World ARC boats have arrived on Alofi‘s mooring field and there are now 14 boats safely tied up. The improvement in the sea state has also allowed crews to get ashore more easily, using the wharf steps and dinghy crane, to start exploring the island from the land.

Celebrations kicked off yesterday mid-afternoon with a barbeque sponsored by Niue Yacht Club. This friendly mid-pacific club calls itself “The smallest big yacht club in the world” owing to having a large number of overseas members, recruited as they pass through, relative to a small local membership; none of whom own a yacht! It was a great evening and World ARC was very well hosted. Thank you very much to the Niue Yacht Club - Commodore Keith Vial and all the members (Ira, Brian, Renae, Pina and Sue ) who took part and helped to put on a great evening.

Crews continue to explore ashore assisted with advice from the ever helpful ladies at Niue Tourism www.niueisland.com/ .They have been assisting crews to books tours, dive and car hires.

The World ARC fleet will be welcomed tonight at the New Zealand High Commissioner’s residence with sun downer drinks sponsored by Admiral Yacht Insurance www.admiralyacht.com. Afterwards, the crews will travel to the Alofi South Village hall for a typical, local party called a Fia Fia, involving music, dance, local food and drink.

The first yachts to arrive in Niue are due to depart to Tonga from Saturday morning.
