IGY Marina & Ocean Club Host General Managers Party

Last night in the ARC Village, new IGY General Manager Edwin Chavez hosted the annual and ever-popular GM Party, this year at the Ocean Club in Rodney Bay Marina.

The event began at 1700 hours and quickly filled to capacity with ARC crews, friends and family. Heineken was on hand as the major beer sponsor, and along with the Ocean Club had a total of five bars set up around the poolside and in the Ocean Club itself. Live jazz music wafted from the speakers upstairs.

The party is an annually popular event, and last night was no exception. Over 185 boats had crossed the finish line in St. Lucia. This year was special as well, as it marked the first time that new GM Edwin Chavez hosted the event. Long-time IGY Rodney Bay General Manager and Aussie ex-pat Adam Foster is moving on after the new year to manage a marina in the Turks & Caicos, while Edwin - formerly the boatyard manager here - is taking the reins.

"Thanks to all the ARC participants, the St. Lucia Tourism Board and the Ocean Club for making this a great ARC!" Edwin proclaimed to a packed house at the Ocean Club. Andrew Bishop also took the stage to make a few remarks.

The party officially came to a close at 2000, but it never really stopped. Instead, the venue simply changed, and participants moved down the boardwalk for live music that continued late into the night.

It's a quiet day today in the marina, but boats are still continuing to arrive from sea, as the back of the fleet makes their way to the Caribbean. Chris Doyle speaks this afternoon, giving his ever-popular Cruising the Caribbean lecture. Doyle is the author of the very popular cruising guides to the Leeward and Windward Islands. Tomorrow night at Pigeon Island is the Costume Party, with a Toga theme this year, and the prize giving is set for Friday night at Gaiety.
