ARC Forest Project gets enthusiastic support for it's third year

ARC Forest Project gets enthusiastic support for it's third year
16 November 2012

There has been an enthusiastic response to the ARC Forest Project this year, with more than 50 participants heading out this morning for a tree-planting and educational excursion in the hills just a short distance from the marina in Las Palmas.

For the past three years, World Cruising Club has teamed up with local non-profit forestry organisations in both Gran Canaria and Saint Lucia to develop and sponsor a carbon offset project, planting trees where they are most needed, and offsetting the carbon emissions created during the ARC crossing.

Over 400 trees have already been planted by volunteer ARC participants on the dedicated ARC Forest site near Las Palmas over the past two years. The ARC Forest will eventually cover 10,000m2, improving bio-diversity, preventing soil erosion and mitigating flooding. The local non-profit charity Foresta manages the ARC Forest throughout the year, ensuring the newly planted trees grow to become a truly sustainable forest.

Sponsored by World Cruising Club, today’s half-day ARC Forest excursion gives volunteer participants the opportunity to plant some trees, learn about the reforestation project, and to enjoy a picnic at the site.

Look out for more information on the Saint Lucia ARC Forest project when the boats arrive in the Caribbean!
