It is with sadness we mark the passing of long-term ARC colleague Régine Fauré. Régine lived in Las Palmas and used her connections and local knowledge to support participants and the ARC organization from 1992 to 2022.
Régine Fauré first worked on a rally in Las Palmas in 1992 on the America 500 and then ARC '92, providing local information for participants on behalf of the Patronato de Tourismo.
In 1993 Jimmy Cornell asked Régine to join the team for the ARC in Las Palmas, and she came back every year to share her knowledge and contacts in the ARC information centre. From 1999 Régine became World Cruising Club’s official representative in Las Palmas, helping Andrew Bishop to liaise with local organisations and to advocate for the ARC and ARC+ rallies.
Régine retired in 2022, but each November she came back to visit the team who were always glad to see her looking ever-chic and quintessentially French, despite her decades living in the Canaries.
Andrew Bishop, ex-Managing Director of World Cruising Club said: "I was saddened to hear of Regine Faure's recent passing. Since her first involvement with America 500 and ARC'92 in Las Palmas, Regine joined the local team on hand to support participants locally with her fount of local knowledge. She dealt with requests and questions with a smile and solved anything from locating a piano tuner, sourcing a baby sitter, or finding out the gestation period for a cat!
“Regine had a love of languages, a French national by birth, she adopted Spanish as her native tongue on moving to Gran Canaria, whilst always keen to learn languages, her most recent being Chinese.
"For Regine the ARC was an important part of her life, and she was a dedicated supporter and local advocate for the event in Las Palmas, well known amongst the various authorities involved. Participants who have passed through Las Palmas with World Cruising Club will remember her from the shop and information office, and for her enthusiastic attendance at ARC events. We all have fond memories of Régine - she was a special friend to the ARC, and especially to us all at World Cruising Club."
Everyone at World Cruising Club will miss Régine, and we extend our sympathies to her daughter Natasha and all her family and friends.
