A Busy Weekend in Salvador

A Busy Weekend in Salvador
06 February, 2011

The pontoon at the Terminal Náutico was even busier this weekend as 9 boats of the fleet arrived in Salvador during Saturday and Sunday. Those members of the fleet who had arrived some days earlier were there to take their lines and welcome them in. It was great to welcome these most recent arrivals, which brought the total number of boats berthed in the marina to 17. As all the arrivals before, the crews were welcomed at the dock by a refreshing Caipirinha and Baiana ladies, distributing tourist information.

The recent surge of arrivals, after a long leg with little wind and plenty of motoring, means that all the boats which started from Hout Bay on 8 January have now arrived in time for the closure of the leg finish line. It also means that almost all the crews will be able to attend the Rally Welcome Function, which will be held in the Terminal Nautico on Monday evening. Results for the leg will now be calculated and prizes awarded during Monday’s function.

Once the crews have recovered from their long journeys, they are expected to begin exploring the wonderful city of Salvador de Bahia which lies on their doorstep, and further afield too. There are many cruising destinations even within the Baía de Todos os Santos and so the explorations are likely to continue by boat as well. Brazil has much too offer and so the crews will be busy!
