Blue Wonder - Leg 2, day 7

Last night was a bit of a messy night in the sense of wind, sea state and sleep. We flew the parasailor all night, well aware of possible squall systems. The bright moon made it easy to view the sky and the radar is working again on this leg. So we made a game plan on snuffing the parasailor quickly if a squall was heading our way and a plan if we got caught in a squall with it up!

The sea state started giving us flashbacks to leg 1. The boat being knocked about it every direction. At times, three separate swells smashing into every side of our boat at the same time. So every time there was a different noise, which was basically all through the night, the person off watch would pop their head up to ensure everything was alright. That's where the broken sleep came in. At one point the wind reduced to 5kn momentarily and we thought the parasailor would drop to the sea, but in some miraculous fashion, it continued pulling our boat along ever so slowly.

With all squalls avoided, we continued on our course, downwind directly towards Grenada to be greeted with amazing wind in the morning. Sometimes gusting probably at the peak of when we should be running the parasailor. The boat going at speeds regularly over 10 knots. We absolutely burnt some miles for quite a few hours there. Still, the sea state was pretty poor, but improved slicing through at those speeds.

As the afternoon wore on, the winds eased and we returned to our slower speeds and washing machine. Every time I went to the toilet I half expected a seatbelt sign to turn on and to be told to return to my seat.

The temperature has certainly heated up, and the kids sprayed us with their water guns on deck as a fun way to cool off. Ed has claimed it's his birthday on passage, but we suspect he just wants an excuse to have cake. We may have a party anyway. We are approaching the halfway point after all!

We made a small attempt to fish, but there is more and more seaweed around as we get further west. We also lost a lure and most of our line from one rod yesterday to some sort of monster that dove deep into the ocean. So hard, that the bearings on our fishing rod were red hot and burnt Ryan's arm.

So our half-attempt at fishing today resulted in us having beef burgers for dinner with freshly baked bread rolls.
