Cohiba - Day 8 - where do you meet new people

All is well onboard Cohiba, we are keeping busy sailing, eating, drinking tea, fishing and night watches seems to contain the activity of eating snacks from the snack cupboard without leaving any evidence when the daylight arrives. Wrapping or crumbs have been found on the cockpit floor, so apparently we have a snack monsters no one have yet seen...hmmmm :-)

We have been out here for a week now, and we are already worried the days will go too fast and before we know it we will be in St. Lucia. Not that we don’t want to arrive, we love Caribbean but time at sea is so special and we are enjoying it to the most.

Fishing is going better and we had Mahi Mahi sashimi for lunch yesterday followed by home made meat balls for dinner.

The Atlantic is big, and although there is more than just us out here, it’s been several days since we saw an AIS signal (proof of other life out here) on our plotter. Yesterday such a signal popped up only a few nm in front of us, Brugda and only doing 2.6 kn. Not long after we were called up on the vhf, and we found out she was as solo rower that had been out for 30 days and not seen any people since. She was delighted when we suggested to sail close so we could meet and take some pictures. When we got closer we recognized the flag, she was a Norwegian solo rower! What are the odds to meet a fellow country men in the middle of the Atlantic...it’s only what, about 6 million of us?
She is a tough girl, and we all admire her for what she is doing. We all felt a bit sad leaving her. It was an emotional meeting and chat as we carried the conversation on vhf for a while, in Norwegian off course.
When we are back on dry land we will get in touch and e-mail her the pictures we took.
