Circe - Half Way There

Half Way There

WARNING: Captains, this is what happens when you bring a girlie girl on board as crew.

This morning at approximately 1145 UTC, we passed the half way point of our 2900 nautical mile passage - an occasion I knew back Stateside that I would somehow want to mark. That “somehow” I found on the beauty aisle at my local CVS pharmacy - facial treatment masks! I knew it might take some coercion to get these salty dogs to do something so out of nature for them, but I also had confidence in their taking part as the good sports I knew them to be. After all, they wouldn’t want to upset the hand that feeds them! I told them they’d at least get a fruit infusion out of it as I had the sense to get pineapple facial masks!

As expected, all were happy to comply with this refreshing nod to the half way mark and we were masked and relaxed as we crossed the 1450 mark in our trip log. I watched with some humor as these men learned how to handle the delicate paper mask with hands more suited to grappling lines and hoisting sails. But in the end, they got the masks applied and learned what we women have known all along - a beauty mask can make an everyday day a special day (thank you, Amor Towles). Did any one of them enjoy it a great deal more than the others? Yes, but he shall remain unnamed (but you would be able to pick him out as his skin is positively glowing behind the stubble!).

Yep - that’s what you get when you bring a girlie girl on board. Aarrh.
