Timshel - St Helena to Brazil Day 1

Left St Helena this morning heading for Salvador, one day after the rest of the fleet who are heading for Salvador. We'd only arrived late on Wednesday afternoon, and with Steve having to repair the mainsail furling, with help from Bones from Emily Morgan and Larry from St who did some excellent stainless steel welding and machining for us; we were lucky to find such a person on the small island and who could attend to our job straight away. But all this meant that Steve had missed the island tour and the whale shark snorkelling trip and had hardly seen anything of the island apart from Jamestown. So we stayed an extra day and did an island tour with James from St Helena yacht services. Anita did the ascent of the 699 steps of Jacobs ladder up to the upper town (average slope of 45 deg) and back down and got her certificate from the museum - which was very interesting of itself. Misto also stayed an extra day having arrived even later than we did due to a broken bowsprit that had sent them back to Cape Town for repair. We had a great party last night given by Sydney and Matt on Australian yacht Influencer for Australia Day, a barbie on the back, with the breakaway group of yachts (Influencer, Mad Monkey, Aurora Polaris, Smoke and Roses and Cayuse) that are heading on an alternative route via Ascension island. Two boats are also heading straight for Europe via Cape Verde. The sun has come out today, but here is little wind, fortunately it has gone round to the south so on a beam reach we have more apparent wind. But we can still see the island!
