Murphys Law - Day 8 // Discovery of a Trojan horse

The day started in the now well established Murphys Law-way around 0000 a clock. Halvor, for the second time, identified large amounts of water on the floor. The water tasted salt and oil. Apparently yesterdays attempt to kill the trojan horse of an electrical bilge pump hadn`t succeeded. Eivind, who had just fallen asleep hopefully were asking “Can we deal with this tomorrow morning?”, but instantly knew the answer to the question. The pump was handled for good with sikaflex, hose clamp, electrical tape and other meassures.

We can now resume the usual watch schedule and can go back to sleep.

At 1200 hours, there is water in the bilge for the third time. This time it tastes like fresh water and oil, which is both good and bad news. Good because we were not taking in any more salt water. Bad because our fresh water tanks clearly were leaking. No hole in the tanks, hoses or pump will reveal itself, so we disconnect the hoses leading to the aft outdoor shower, indoor shower, bathroom- and galley sink, and limit the connection to one hose connected to the in-line pump where we we can take out the water we need. Also we have 190l of water in bottles and 100 in jerry cans on deck, so no emergency. Apparently this stopped the leak.
