Bimble - Log Day 12

Hello World,

Today has been an interesting day. It was an early start for some as we found a fuel leak in the starboard engine compartment. Those who are sailors can only imagine the fun of removing 60litres of diesel from the bowels of the stern at 2am. For those who don’t its best to keep it that way. The task was taken on by my galant father and we have all enjoyed the fine smell of diesel perfuming the rest of the boat inside and out for the rest of today whilst being able to use the deck as an ice skating rink. The good thing is the clean up was managed without spilling any over the side into our precious ocean.

We’ve been playing cat and mouse with Alize for the last 36 hours. They are currently 1.5nm off our stern but catching us up swiftly with their big spinnaker. The sea has been confused today bouncing us about the place but we have had good winds and have been averaging 7knts which is a nicer speed for us.

As we watch our Distance to Waypoint get smaller and smaller we can’t help but start to dream of an ice cold G&T with a zesty slice of lemon sipped amongst tranquil turquoise waters fringed by white sands and gently wafting palms in the warm Caribbean breeze… Although if you read one of our previous log entries about the meaning of Bimble which most the time we stand by, sometimes after 12 days at sea we wish we were called Zoom….

As a treat Lucy made a delicious chocolate cake this morning and the (pre made by mum) Christmas cake was broken into for a delicious afternoon tea.

Love to all at home.
