Danica I - Danica Sailing Blog

Day 8- Sunday, December 2, 2018
¢ Night Watch Report:
o 16-23 knots - gusts to 25 knots, Danica's speed avg. 7 knots
o 3-4 m swells with chop made sailing very uncomfortable and noisy
o 03:30 S/V LEONTINA # 112 tacked and passed behind Danica
o 04:00 sailing cruiser SEACLOUD 2 on port ( we admired this tall ship in Siracusa, Sicily)
o Glowing water (phosphorescence) with flying fish was a magical companion in the darkness of the night
¢ Day sailing and Danica's Trip's distance
o 09:00 - Captain and Don redeployed the Code 0 and successfully raised it with no major issues. Mary became a sheet handling expert, preventing any unwelcomed wraps
o Sailing M-2, Genoa (G) and Code 0, averaging 8 knots
o 12:00 - noon - Trip distance -1177 NM
¢ Highs and Lows of the day
o We are wining and dining on Mahi-mahi. After lunch Captain and Don each pulled a beautiful fish aboard Danica. Mary's menu plan is changing for the better and protein portions are getting larger. Fish put up little fight - it looks almost too easy
o Radio net needed some relaying as boats increase distance from each other
o Danica is maintaining her position in the upper 20% of our division
