Glory - Glory Lagoon 42 log Day 8- No more Code 0

I wasn’t happy with the halyard for my code 0. It felt wrong. When I went to lower it to check, the sail started to quickly unfurl. I raised it again then attempted to furl it back in. Not possible due to an overwrap at winch. As we were dealing with that the halyard suddenly parted and the whole mess went into the ocean over the bow, tearing off the bowsprit. Now I had a big downwind sail wrapped under my hull in a 9 foot swell. I donned my harness and mask, tied on a line and jumped in for a swim. Fortunately the sail wasn’t caught in the props. I was able to untangle it from the centerboards and get it to the bow ( crew using engines carefully) where we could retrieve it.
It’s never only just one thing that goes wrong at a time on a boat: the self tailer on the winch was mis-aligned and the pin in the block that the halyard attaches to was undone and bent. Perhaps that’s the culprit.
We are sailing on under main and jib at 6.5 knots. Boat and crew are safe and I felt we dealt well with this potential disaster. I could imagine a different scenario in different wind and water conditions that would not have ended as well.
