Adagio - From Adagio (U.S.A) #3: 11/26/2018

3: 11/26/2018: Monday

Adagio is moving more slowly than I'd hoped. Granted she is quite heavily laden and we chose not to fly the light air sails overnight but we only made 123nm since the start and I was hoping for more, Also, I've chosen some routing that will drive us south faster than a lot of other boats who enjoying the faster winds up north. This makes our VMG (Velocity Made Good) toward St. Lucia look terrible. We will have to wait another week or so to see if this was a good gambit as there was a model that forecasted a large ridge of HI pressure along the rhumb line. We'll just have to wait and see how it goes. And, no matter how it goes, we're going to get there when we get there and the rum punch will still taste great!

No matter how you cut it, you can preach "remember, it's a ~rally~ .. but I do so hate slogging along instead of flying fast. The winds today have been "flukey" at best; down to 7kts,and when they reach 12kts they can't make up their minds where they want to go. But, we're going to take it easy and enjoy the ride (which so far has been quite lumpy ...) so, when we will get there is still a "TBA" and I can't get too excited about a half a knot right now. What I'm hoping for is to come gliding in with very few engine hours used.

Some clouds early today and a tiny sprinkle of rain but nothing noteworthy. Some shipping traffic and a few rally boats on the AIS. We've separated from the main fleet by a goodly amount already and only a few other boats have chosen the 'southerly' curve.

I mis-spoke on yesterday's post about seeing the green flash; it was actually at today's sunset. All the crew clearly saw it .. except for the one who was trying to photograph it.

Made some water during the generator run, the pressure and flow gauges are running weird; seeming to vary with the rolling of the boat. I shut it down early and will look at it in the morning.

Crew is already into the rotation routine. Nice :)
