Skyelark of London - Day 1

Day 1

Once we had battled our way out of Las Palmas marina, completed the final
preparations, had our photograph taken, we were out amongst the other boats
around the starting line waiting with anticipation for the starting gun...
The starting gun goes off and we are away on our adventure across the
Atlantic.

Thankfully, we have more wind than anticipated as we make our way South to
avoid the wind shadow from the mountains of Gran Canaria. The crew are
gradually getting into the groove of time on the ocean waves as we start the
watch pattern and other formalities aboard Skyelark.

For the first few hours of daylight and overnight we head South making very
little progress west towards St Lucia. Yippee... it's morning and we have
now gybed and started to head on a more Westerly course... another first for
the crew was successfully getting the kite up and down again without too
much complaining from Dan.! The weather has been a bit dull today, but
thankfully the sun is now out again. This evening we are looking forward to
the cooking expertise of Nigel and Soren.....signing off until the next
time.... NB. still no fish.
