Bimble - Log 2 Bimble is away

Goodness we are actually on our way on this sailing journey and adventure that has been dreamed and planned for a over a year now. A mixture of sail plans have been tried out, it was all a bit mad at the beginning and kept us all occupied for the first few hours. It was great practise pulling up and taking down our sails but given this was on the back of all the ARC festivities and parties in Las Palmas we all felt pretty pooped out. Our best plan so far to achieve the south needed to get us out of the wind shadow is our twin head sails and at this present moment we are making 6.5 knots at 220 COG but it has been a pay off at times between direction and speed…we think we are doing ok with it but then who knows. I would say though that the engine unfortunately had go on last night when the wind dropped to 4 knots.

So its been 24 hours at sea already and all is well aboard ‘Bimble'. Our crew seem very cheerful and well with the World. Lucy is our amazing crew member given she has never been to sea before starting this trip, so credit to her, she certainly knows how to jump in at the deep end!!….I think Stephen and Lucy are already competing for the ‘Golden Pillow’ award! Meals are pretty gourmet, Spanokopita pie with avocado salad last night, today we had tuna with creme freche and mixed grains fried with garlic, onion…..A yummy ‘mini magnum’ finished off our lunch. So we are doing pretty great with being fed well. The fishing line has been out since the dawn but no bites so far. We have seen a shooting star and a pod of dolphins have played in our bow wave.

We have been pretty much shadowing ‘Aventure’ a 45 foot lagoon Cat in the ARC fleet who is presently off our starboard bow. She has looked magnificent all day flying her ‘Parasailor’, we also had a ‘Good Morning’ VHF call to them, they seemed happy.

Last but not least Freyja has been playing her Ukele whilst on watch, it all sounded idyllic…Books, listening to podcasts, writing journals and chat have kept us variously busy to add to the general contentment….Rod is so contented right now he has found a comfy spot and is snoozing in the saloon. Us girls aboard are looking forward to a game of ‘Scrabble’ and ‘Scrawl’ very soon.
