Isabel - Day 14
--
Sunday 12 Noon 6/12/2015
14 37 48 N 56 50 22 W Daily run 189 - distance to St Lucia 242 miles
Same again! Sunshine and dead downwind running goose winged in a little
less wind. The talk of precisely what time we might finish has now been
discussed to death and is banned. With less wind an early evening and supper
has definitely slipped away and as the breeze drops our eta runs away.
On the plus side we had Burgers avec le Roquefort fromage et onions for
lunch followed by Magnum Ice creams.
Anyone viewing the tracker on the ARC website will see us well ahead of the
main pack - The racing fleet are all IRC and no motoring, the cruising
classes are allowed to motor and declare engine hours for an adjustment - we
will not know our true position for a while (days) as we have no idea how
much anyone else has motored. I can accurately confirm we are still
carrying 1150 litres of diesel an iron and an ironing board !
Whatever time we finish it will be quick race as once around the south of
Gran Canaria at the start we have had wind from directly behind us all the
way (and no rain at all). Usually it is favourable to head south towards the
Cape Verde islands to pick up the classic trade winds then sail across, this
adds hundreds of extra miles.
