DAY FIVE VARIED DAY

Having diminished wind this morning we put the mainsail up and goose winged with this and the large genoa. This was fine to a certain extent but we did get a bit of slamming of the boom despite the preventer holding it in place. Late afternoon we got fed up with the lack of wind and sailing at an average of 6 knots so decided to head south for awhile on a reach, we flew and the wind got up. We are now back on our rhumb line still broad reaching at an average of 8 -9 knots.

As the yacht was fairly level this afternoon I did some laundry in the machine so we looked like, as Jonathan’s Father would have called it, a ‘Maltese Bum boat’ with washing hanging everywhere to dry.

I cooked the remaining Mahi-mahi (Dorado) in paper and foil wrapped with sliced spring onions, chilli, garlic, ginger and a sprinkle of soy sauce. With it I stir fried pak choi with garlic, ginger and chilli with a dash of oyster sauce. All served with rice.

We spent some of the late afternoon, whilst the wind was down, watching dolphins playing around the bow from the Dolphin watching seats. The sun came out for awhile but we are having a few squalls through, which we pick up on the radar so are able to reduce sail before we are hit.

Found a large flying fish under the dodger - surprised it didn’t hit somebody on watch as it came aboard.

We will have to start fishing again tomorrow now all of it has gone.
