Yesterday the wind died. I have to check myself from cursing over this, the events of the past week still uppermost in my mind. A repeat of the weather a week ago does not feature on our agenda. We must be content with what we have. But a little more would be nice! On the point of firing up the engine, the wind filled in as if on cue and off we went once more. It was a perfect day in every way, from the weather to the sheer pleasure of sailing upon the ocean. We had a thoroughly lazy time of it. The barometer peaked at 1016, having been as low as 1005 when we left Cocos. Trade wind clouds made their first appearance so we can expect stronger winds over the next couple of days. David says that a new low is developing but is well behind us to the east. We must press on. With 700nm to go we will be hard pushed to make landfall on Monday. Over the course of the last 24 hours we have noticed an adverse current of up to one knot. You see! Neptune is still teasing us..... The new format for the 9pm listening watch has proved highly successful. There has been a very good response to the mini roll call so well done to Paul who conceived the idea. It has taken nine long months to persuade people to tune in but now that they are, perhaps I can finally put that subject to bed!
Eating our greens!
My fresh fruit and vegetable order, flown in especially from Perth to Cocos, is holding up really well, which is just as well for it cost a small fortune and needed a second mortgage to pay for it all. A staggering 390AD! We may be out pocket but we will not develop scurvy. On opening the pre packed box, I was disappointed to find everything chilled. This did not bode well for longevity. However my tomatoes (unrefridgerated), remain perfect. Nothing is thrown overboard, nothing is wasted. I still have avocado, apples, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, celery, courgette, green beans, kiwis, lettuce, onions, oranges, peppers, potatoes, pumpkin, and spring onion. So salad will stay on the menu for the rest of the trip. I even have a melon bought in Bali, imagine that!
Oops!
Quite forgot to mention Marion Green from France in my "fan mail" blog. Mea Culpa! We picked up her two messages on Cocos Island. Many thanks for your kind comments Marion and yes, there will be more photos once I can persuade my blog assistant to lay down his book!
