Northern Light II - Saturday 18th November
After 6 days in Mindelo we were pleased to start our journey again. Provisioning was a struggle - just as well we put on all of our dried goods in East Cowes. The prices of fresh vegetables and fruit in the markets were extortionate but at least we were contributing to the local economy.
Sadly we missed the start at noon yesterday by about 15 minutes as we put up our main and found a small tear at the bottom - by the time some tape was put on the tear we started towards the back of the fleet. Over the last 18 hours we have not only caught the fleet but have managed to go on a SW route which puts us to the West of many boats. As always some small breakages to be fixed today.
Very tight winds over night - 8/9 knots - so very slow progress over the past 6 hours. Beautiful sunrise and calm seas - what a change from the last leg.
As always we ate well last night with Spanish risotto.
With such light winds it might the Gennaker today rather than the Parasailor and perhaps some fishing….
